dc.description.abstract The article deals with the main features of T.S. Eliot’s editorial activity. T.S. Eliot was the supporter of distribution of culture of different countries, opposite political looks and artistic directions. A basic criterion for the selection of authorial materials was exactness of verbal expression, that envisaged levelling of unsuccessful cliches, amotivational repetitions, stamps, inappropriate stylistic devices. The first attempts of editorial activity of T.S. Eliot were made in a literary magazine «Harvard Advocate» where he worked as an editor from 1909 to 1910. Further labour of T.S. Eliot as an assistant of editor-in-chief took place in a magazine «The Egoist» (1917–1919). Activity of T.S. Eliot in this magazine represents the origin of basic conceptions of literary criticism of the artist. «The Egoist» was the first edition, that put beginning to the phenomenon which became common for the man of epoch of world network: reviews and comments of readers were firstly published there. In opinion of the editor it was very important for improvement of communication with an audience of readers. In 1922 T.S. Eliot founded a magazine «The Criterion» where he carried out the role of editor-in-chief up to 1939, when the edition stopped its existence. «The Criterion» was one of the most influential magazines and during almost two decades it played a considerable role in the cultural life of Great Britain. Comments of the editor that appeared in every number of the magazine, showed growing conservatism of Eliot’s position in the questions of politics and culture. In spite of it «The Criterion» remained open for writers that adhered to the opposite points of view. The wide spectrum of poetry was published in the magazine. The main requirements to it were «a striking specification» and original rhythm. Thus, study of editorial experience of T.S. Eliot is important both for young editors and modern publishing business on the whole. en
