This article delves into the socio‐psychological aspect of shaping notions about the future family among adolescents with intellectual impairments. A theoretical analysis of scholarly sources concerning the issue of forming perceptions of the future family in adolescents with intellectual impairments in the teenage years is conducted. It is ascertained that despite the topicality of the problem of shaping perceptions about the future family among adolescents with intellectual impairments, this matter remains inadequately addressed both in theoretical and practical dimensions. It is elucidated that individuals within the designated category exhibit characteristics of notions such as insufficient differentiation, fragmentariness, and vagueness. Their discretionary manipulation of these notions is disrupted, and processes of analysis and synthesis are predominantly limited to a figurative level. Psychological peculiarities in the emergence of notions about the future family among adolescents with intellectual impairments are investigated. It is ascertained that the enhancement of preparatory education for students with intellectual impairments towards independent family life must consider various facets, among which ensuring the competence of psychological‐pedagogical personnel within the educational institution attended by these children is imperative. Research findings indicate that perceptions of the future family significantly impact the successful resolution of individual familial issues, particularly conflicts, and the development of real social and marital relations. It is determined that notions about the future family encompass a comprehensive array of imaginatively reconstituted images that reflect characteristic attributes of the future family, potential spouses, and children, as well as the nature of interpersonal dynamics and distinctive features of familial life organization. These stipulated notions are moulded under the influence of diverse factors: the parental family (its composition, level of well‐being, interrelations among its members), the experiences gained therein, parents' level of identification with their own future family, the course of adolescent development, gender‐role identification, knowledge of family life derived from reference groups and mass media.
